Image resizing small makes image pixelated in photoshop

Image resizing small makes image pixelated in photoshop

When resampling images, larger or smaller, you always loose some quality. This is natural as you are either adding or removing pixels from your image.
When you make an image smaller, it will become sharper and more pixelated, as the higher contrast edges are maintained at the cost of the less important filler information.
When you make an image larger, it will become more blurry. This is because you are adding pixels between the existing ones that are a created as a blend of its neighbors.
The actual quality of the transformation is determined by the algorithm used, as mentioned by Chris. When using the Nearest Neighbor option, resizing larger will create a pixelated image. But you may be thinking of a non-resampled increase in size, or a zoom, which really is just making the pixels larger on screen, thus more visible (i.e. pixelated).
There is no way to make the original image bigger without losing sharpness/quality. But recreating the basic shape in vector would work fine. If you want to add the gradients and such in photoshop I would suggest making it real big before taking it to PS. It's easy to make raster objects smaller. If you're using photoshop then simply put, you can't. For something to be able to stretch and retain quality it has to be in vector format. I'm assuming that you took that off the web somewhere and that it's a jpg right?
What you're going to have to do is re-draw it in Illustrator (it should be fairly simple). Once you do that you can stretch it to as big as you want it.

another thing i read online you can make them into a vector and resize them without any loss of quality..... i dowloaded a free vector program called vector magic and that didnt work at all it made it to a vector but took ALL the detail out of my photo and made it look like a painting.... it didnt change when i resized and made it a jpg again.

How to Make Pictures Bigger Without Blurring in Photoshop

How to Make Pictures Bigger Without Blurring in Photoshop

Open your photograph in Photoshop. Click the "Image" menu, then "Image Size" to confirm the current file size in pixels at the top of the pop up, and the physical size of the print at the specified resolution. Images for printing normally require a resolution of 180 to 240 pixels per inch.
2
Uncheck the "Resample Image" box and enter 180 as the "Resolution" in pixels per inch. The width and height shown represents the maximum size print that can currently be made from that photograph. Check the "Resample Image" box and confirm that "Constrain Proportions" is also checked. Enter the required width or height of the picture you require. The other dimension will be automatically entered as we are increasing the file size without distorting the picture.
3
Choose "Bicubic Smoother" as the algorithm to be used for altering the file size in the bottom drop down box. Click OK to process the image to its new size. Save the new picture by clicking the "File" menu, then choosing "Save As" and specifying a new name, and optionally a new location, for the file.

That one, no. Small pictures can only be increased without losing much quality when they are vectorized images.well I usually change my background like once a week so this isnt the picture I will have for the rest of my life. I just made this thread for this picutre, and future ones that i will take in.

How To Use Marquee Tool In Photoshop

How To Use Marquee Tool In Photoshop

I mentioned in that same tutorial that Photoshop gives us lots of different tools for selecting things in an image, some basic and some more advanced (although it's funny how even so-called "advanced" tools can seem quite basic once you're comfortable with them). In this tutorial, we'll look at one of the most common and easiest selection tools to use, the Rectangular Marquee Tool, one of Photoshop's basic selection tools that, along with the Elliptical Marquee Tool and the Polygonal Lasso Tool, is designed for making selections based on simple geometric shapes. As the name implies, the Rectangular Marquee Tool is perfect for times when you need to draw a selection in the shape of a rectangle or a square. You'll find the Rectangular Marquee Tool sitting at the very top of the Tools panel in Photoshop. It's the tool with the icon that looks like the outline of a square. Click on it to select it:

The Rectangular Marquee Tool is located at the top of the Tools panel.
If you're using Photoshop CS4 as I am here, or Photoshop CS3, and you have your Tools panel set to a single column layout, the Rectangular Marquee Tool will be the second icon from the top:
The Rectangular Marquee Tool in the Tools panel. Image © 2009 Photoshop Essentials.com
The Tools panel in Photoshop CS3 and higher can be displayed in either a single or double column layout.
Drawing Rectangular Selections
Using the Rectangular Marquee Tool in its most basic form is easy. You simply click with your mouse at the point where you want to begin the selection, which will usually be in the top left corner of the object or area you need to select, then continue holding your mouse button down as you drag towards the bottom right corner of the object or area. When you release your mouse button, the selection is complete!
Here's a photo of some wooden blocks:

Colorful wooden blocks.
See that large red block in the top row? Let's say I wanted to change its color, a very simple thing to do. Now, if this was Star Trek, I could simply say "Computer, select red block, top row", followed by "Change color to purple", or whatever color we wanted. Unfortunately, reality hasn't quite caught up to science fiction just yet, but that doesn't mean life in this day and age is unbearably difficult. Far from it! Photoshop may not be able to identify the wooden block, since all it sees are pixels, but not only can you and I see it, we can see that it's very clearly in the shape of a rectangle, which means that the task of selecting it is perfectly suited for the Rectangular Marquee Tool.
First, I'll select the Rectangular Marquee Tool from the Tools panel as we saw a moment ago. You can also select tools using their keyboard shortcuts. Pressing the letter M on your keyboard will instantly select the Rectangular Marquee Tool. Then, to begin the selection, I'll click in the top left corner of the block. While still holding down my mouse button, I'll drag towards the bottom right corner of the block:
Drawing a selection with the Rectangular Marquee Tool. Image © 2009 Photoshop Essentials.com
Click in the top left corner to begin a selection, then drag down to the bottom right corner. Release your mouse button to complete it.
If you find that you didn't begin your selection in exactly the right spot, there's no need to start over. Just hold down your spacebar, then drag your mouse to move the selection where you need it. When you're done, release your spacebar and continue dragging out the selection.
To complete the selection, all I need to do is release my mouse button. The wooden block is now selected (or at least, the pixels that make up what we see as the block are selected), and a selection outline appears around the block in the document window. Any edits I make at this point will affect that specific block and no others:

PhotoShop CS6 Crashes while working in 3D

PhotoShop CS6 Crashes while working in 3D

So as you may guess, any time I try a 3D function in photoshop stops working.
It used to work fine, so I can't figure out what the problem is.
I have updated PS and just got the latest driver for my graphics card.
System specs: Win 7 Home basic 32 , 2GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 7100 / NVIDIA nForce 630i graphics card.
OpenGL Drawing is enabled.
ATI's Catalyst 12.8 has some installer problems where it doesn't completely supersede the previous driver you had installed. You may have run into them.
This was the information ATI returned to me when I reported the problem to them (I'm not a fan of automatic cleaners, but this is verbatim from them):
Uninstall all ATI drivers and any other video card software from the Add or Remove Programs and Features in the Windows Control Panel. Click on AMD Catalyst install manager, click change and then choose the option to express remove all AMD software.
Try using a driver cleaner program to make sure the drivers are removed: Please keep in mind that the (Driver Cleaner / Driver Sweeper are 3rd party software and not supported by AMD) please refer to their websites for instruction and guidance.
Disable any running background software such as firewalls and antivirus.
Make sure your operating System has the latest Service Packs and patches / updates.
Make sure your motherboard has the latest BIOS and CHIPSET software (you can get these updates directly from the manufacturer of the motherboard or Computer).
Make sure your power supply has adequate wattage.
Since you have a desktop Radeon HD graphics card in windows then install this driver: http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/radeon_win7-64.aspx
If the problem still exists please try installing your video card in another PC or try installing another video card in your PC if possible, this will tell us if the issue follows the graphics card or the PC.
Or test your other hardware like RAM, CPU , USB devices…etc to make sure they do not create the problem.
If the problem still exists please download the Belarc Advisor - a free system diagnostics, system information and benchmarking to create a problem report as described: In HTML format and attach file to e-mail.
Download the ‘Belarc Advisor’ from the ‘Products’ tab at the top of the page.
If you are looking for a specific driver, a list of previous drivers can be found here:

I did all this:
ATI:
1. Unplug nic card or modem from net or disconnect
2. Remove ATI driver from add/remove programs then remove the control panel from add/remove programs
3. Reboot into safe mode (F8 during boot up)
4. On reboot into safe mode WinXP SP1/SP2 will auto detect and install drivers. Just let it do its thing. If you can cancel out of the auto install hardware wizard then skip the rest and run Driver Cleaner! If you can NOT cancel out of auto detect wizard then...
5. Navigate to device manager->display adapter->uninstall and/or remove ATI display adapter but do not reboot
6. Disable any AntiVirus Software (If you don't disable is than it could give trouble)
7. Run Cab Cleaner (not needed, but recommended)
8. Run Driver Cleaner
9. Empty recycle bin and reboot
10. Install the new drivers and control panel
And PS crashed within seconds of opening a 3D file.

Creating Custom Brushes in Photoshop

Creating Custom Brushes in Photoshop

Creating your own custom brush is really quite easy:
Open an image, any image.
Select all or part of the image.
Go to Edit –> Define Brush Preset.
Voila! New brush…
You can use anything from scanned textures, photographs, or drawings to make new brushes. The real key to creating a brush is understanding how they work and finding the right settings. In this tutorial, I’ll give you a few tips and show you how to create some specific brushes to get you started.Tips for Making Great Brushes
Sure, you can use any image to create a brush, but the there are definitely some notes you should consider before you start.
Brushes are grayscale.
If you use a color image to define a brush preset, you will notice that the color information is discarded. In a brush shape, the opacity of each pixel is determined by how black it is. Black pixels are opaque, and white is transparent.
High contrast is better.
Because the opacity is determined by black and white, you can get more variety from your brush if you use a high contrast image. If your image is all gray, your brush will turn out to be a big blobby mess.
Use the right size.
When creating a brush, I like to use an image that is around 600 pixels wide. This is because I usually don’t use brushes over 300 pixels wide, but it still gives me room if I want to go bigger.
Settings to Consider
Open your Brush palette (Window–>Brushes) and you will see a bunch of settings you can use to make your brush just right. You can see their specific settings by clicking directly on the categories on the left side of the window. There are a few of these that I almost always change, or at least experiment with, when creating a brush.
Spacing
You can find this under “Brush Tip Shape” at the very bottom of the window. You will almost always want this turned on. Use the slider to change the spacing between your shapes in your stroke. A lower value will give you a smooth stroke, while a higher value will “dot” the brush tip shape along your stroke.
Spacing setting
Angle and Roundness
You can change your brush shape is oriented. It is right above the Spacing settings. Click and drag the arrow on the circle to change the angle. Click and drag the dots to squish your shape.
Angle and roundness settings
Angle Control
This is also in the Shape Dynamics section. Sometimes it will help to change the drop-down menu to “Direction.”
